Hadley's ascent to the pinnacle of doodle artistry took an unexpected turn when his winning entry, a piece that felt "surreal" to him, was created spontaneously during a train journey to Newcastle. Despite the accolades, Hadley remains humble, stating,

"Obviously, I didn’t think of myself as that and still don’t think of myself as the first doodle artist in Australia."
