Service Description

Sunday 28th July, 10am-12pm | Book yourself into a Kintsugi for Clothing workshop with the founders of sustainable fashion design label, High Tea with Mrs Woo. Borrowing from the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold alloy, this workshop shows you how to practice kintsugi for clothing as a way to cherish and extend the life of your loved garments by visible mending with gold thread. Don't worry, this is not about learning a perfect craft! It is to learn some mending techniques as well as to explore kintsugi as an applied, philosophical practice to inspire a better, slower approach to life. It provides a space for you to explore the values and expressions of new and old clothing, and what it means to care for them. WHAT TO EXPECT | In this workshop, you will learn a basic kintsugi for clothing visible mending technique using gold thread that you can apply to common holes in your favourite clothes. A take-home mini mending kit is included. WHAT TO BRING | A garment or textile with small tears or holes - the size of the repairs should be no larger than a 20c coin so that you can complete some mends in this 2-hour session. NOTE | Feel free to bring along other garments with different tears - if there is time, we can look at other mending techniques.
